Spoke too soon, just about when I posted the above outage the the network switch went postal.

Fortunately there was a hot spare but there was some time wasted at the DC trying to diagnose the fault before repatching.

Fingers crossed I'm not jinxing it again...

Kind Regards

Well first attempt at an in place server operating system upgrade didn't go smoothly, error in the script, easy to do when the script itself is a 150kb plain text file.

Restored the snapshot taken a couple of minutes before upgrading so back to original, oh well, try again after I've sifted through the script.

Ah, ha. So that is why the site kept going dead on me this morning. I figured I was banned for being a bad boy.

I did say it would just happen, no point in saying in a post site down for maintenance as it would be down

But for now a lot of reading through a script to do :?

Over the next few days we will be attempting the upgrade again so if the site looks down just try again later as there is no point posting we're doing it now as it would be down :D

We're upgrading the hardware of this server on or before 31st March 2025 so if you notice any glitches during this time it's most likely due to that.

Also, as this is brand new hardware the IP addresses will change, in order not to lose any posts the board will be put into maintenance mode for a short time to allow for DNS propagation. If we're lucky it will only be for a few hours if we get our prep work done right. :D

And we're back :D

Server migration went to plan and DNS has switched over, but with the nature of DNS the forums make take a day or two to stabilise. If it seems to have gone down just refresh and that will pull a new DNS request so should get it back again, it's just due to DNS relics.

Well what a nightmare, apologies for the downtime.

Our shiny new hardware went 'bang' literally, causing all sites to drop and resulted in new hardware being provisioned then soak tested before rebuilding, hopefully this does not happen again!

Yep, noticed. On the few occasions that things went down, it brought out a concern that the end of the board was nigh.

This is a chance to express appreciation for your efforts and expense to maintain this website. A big THANK YOU! :!:
